Enjoy - Be Honest and Trust that Inspiration will Guide You!

"Why don't you take the time to enjoy yourself for a change? Why don't you like being you for a change? Just be different and don't hate yourself."
-Rama

So, it is another beginning. A New Year, a time for reassessment, and a time to be honest. Honestly, how do you feel about yourself?

If you are like me, your thinking, your feeling about yourself changes. But, I also notice that there is an underlying theme that seems to fill my stream of consciousness about myself.

The tape I just reviewed was most intriguing. Rama's focus during this 1989 tape was directed at his students' general harsh view of themselves, or dishonest view of their spiritual inspiration. Students held a belief individually that they were inspired to be enlightened. Rama said no one student was so inspired.

Students individually were frustrated and harsh on themselves, falling short of their own beliefs and their own standards about how they "should" be as serious spiritual aspirants.

Rama said: "Self-hate doesn't create enlightenment. It just causes you to not enjoy the current moment."

The lesson that I pulled out of this tape, for me, goes like this: Truth about personal inspiration is clouded by ego and beliefs. The struggles that are experienced by students who practice meditation and mindfulness techniques are struggles only because a student really isn't inspired. Enlightenment is not the most important, the most exciting, the most inspiring reality. Resistance exists because the student's not really inspired to be enlightened.

So, I am taking a good, honest look at my self. Honestly, I can hear the truth in what Rama said. I have put a lot of "shoulds", "oughtas", and "will do tomorrows" in my self-talk. I have beat my self up a whole lot because I am not "doing" what I "oughta be" doing.

I think I will use this as my focus for this week, anyway. "Have Fun. Enjoy my self, each aspect and part of my being. Enjoy the moments of life, and know that behind all of this drama, there is enlightenment, and trust that when the time is ripe, inspiration will shatter the illusion."
