Touch the Ecstasy of the Infinite“Meditation is about ecstasy, it’s about the understanding of truth, it’s about us changing ourselves and making ourselves god-like. Our mind melds with the mind of infinity and we become infinity. . . Meditate on the light and merge with it. And always remember that you’re only touching the surface of infinity. That it goes on forever, and that you have before you limitless ecstasy."
Life can get out of balance.
Day after day can be a series of catastrophes, and the edges of depression
can push at your psyche. This is a fairly accurate description of some
days and moments in my life during the last few months. Luckily, speckled
there, among the doldrums are sparks of happiness and bliss. I know the limitless ecstasy.
I know meditation, only because Rama opened the door to the formless.
The doorway is always there, waiting, but I spend a lot of time ignoring
its invitation. Today I was reading a transcript
and listening to Rama’s voice on tape. Outside the clouds were full
and dark, but there was enough space to watch the colors of the sunset.
Inside, the fire was popping, and a new picture of Rama wearing his
bright red sweater was shining out into the room. Before I read the
tape, I meditated to music of Enlightenment, and touched the surface
of ecstasy. It is easy to forget. It is very
easy to ignore that door, though it is ajar and the light is slipping
through. Hopefully, something tugs us towards the opening and we slide
through. As I listened to Rama’s words
today they spoke to me, as if they had been designed for my current
state of mind. Here is what I heard. Meditation is not sitting because
you know you “should”. It isn’t sitting in some bored state of mind,
or a mind cluttered with thoughts. It isn’t even sitting in total focus
and concentration. This is it, in Rama’s own words:
“If it’s not ecstasy, you’re not meditating. I don’t know what you’re
doing.” The lesson from that tape that
was made a decade ago reached out and grabbed me. It reminded me why
I sat with Rama. It pulled me back in through the doorway into meditation,
where I lightly touched the vast ocean of eternity. ARCHIVES! Samsara
