Something Right As Rama's students lined up to enter the Beverly Theatre, we were greeted with a lone gentleman, bullhorn in hand, loudly criticizing Rama and his teachings. To my memory, the basic objection was to teaching the concept of Reincarnation. This gentleman was dressed in dark blue slacks and a dark blue short-sleeved polo shirt, with the name of a Fundamentalist group embroidered over the shirt's pocket. As the students filed into the theatre, and Rama's program began, the gentleman came closer to the lobby area, but never actually entered the building, all the while continuing his loud and harsh shouting. This scenario made me very uncomfortable because it was the first time I had been exposed, in a public manner, to this type of relentlessly negative verbal energy. For a good portion of the first half of our meeting, this gentleman's voice insistently hammered on and on during Rama's talk. At this point in my spiritual development I was both annoyed by and afraid of this situation and I wondered why Rama didn't just out & out "zap" this gentleman "into submission." However, Rama continued on with his program, and the gentleman finally left. The Always Elegant Rama made only one reference to this gentleman's disruptive presence that evening. With a light sigh of simplicity Rama merely noted, "I must be doing something right . . ." |
