Clean out the Fears from the Corners of your Awareness“The operative
condition on this particular planet, the central mode which human
beings follow, is fear. -Rama
Overcoming Fear, Zen Master Rama But I will tell you something, fear has an insidious tenacity, and it seeps into the cracks of your life. Before you know it, the same old fears, or new and different fears leak into your consciousness. You have to be diligent as you clean out the fears from the corners of your awareness. Fear is used as a tool by parents and teachers, lawmakers, law enforcers and world leaders. It works. Rama talked about a friend of his who he encouraged to lose a little weight. He told the friend a whole bunch of very good, positive reasons that he should lose that extra 15 pounds. But his friend didn’t lose the weight. His friend’s doctor said, “If you don’t lose weight, you are going to die.” His friend lost the weight. Fear Works! By the time I was 5, I learned about poisons and kidnappers, and the danger of crossing the street. To this day, at a very busy intersection, I can feel my adrenal glands work overtime as I wait for the perfectly safe moment to walk across the street. When I stand outside of myself, and observe, I am surprised to see the lines of fear that run through my being. You would think, after all these years of practice, I would have dealt with, and discarded most of my fears. I hope I have, but there is still a lot of work to do. Some of my fears are very unique to me. Some of my fears are your fears. How do we break through the barriers of the fears that limit us? If we are serious about our self-discovery, about our enlightenment, we have to find a way through. Fears. Recognize them, face them, defeat them. One by one, or better yet, gather up the whole long list and dissolve them in the void of meditation. Just do it. Remember, though, fears will try to sneak back in. They will try to paralyze you with their snake-like venom, and render you powerless. But you, and I, we will bring our impeccability and our warrior spirit to the battle, and we will win. Again and again. An interesting point to ponder-- according to Rama, “The fear of enlightenment, the fear of perfection, that’s number one on everybody’s list. It might be unconscious, but that’s the biggest fear.” ARCHIVES! Melting into Ecstasy Let the Winds of Tantra Blow Into the Mystic Into the Moment Tao The Way of The Water Aware of The One |
